Welcome to Omarchy!

Omarchy is an omakase Linux distribution based on Arch, the tiling window manager Hyprland, and the desktop construction-kit Quickshell. It ships with everything a modern, savvy computer user needs to be productive immediately. From Neovim (btw) to Chromium, Obsidian to LibreOffice, and Kdenlive to OBS Studio. Hell, even a retro Winamp-style music player is there!

This isn’t just a grab bag of preinstalled packages, though. It’s a complete system designed with both aesthetics and productivity in mind. Because a beautiful system is a motivating system, and productivity has always been downstream from motivation. There’s zero bloat here: just everything I use.

It’s true that developing an eye for the beauty of a TUI-heavy, theme-delighted, tiling-window-managed system like Omarchy can be an acquired taste. But that’s why you’re here, isn’t it? To experience something a little outside of your comfort zone? To embark on a little bit of an adventure into a new way of working with computers? I hope so.

Omarchy isn’t like Windows and it’s not like macOS either. It’s not trying to be as familiar as possible. It’s trying to be beautiful and better. Embrace the Linux-ness of it all. Manually editing some config files, sure. Heavy on the terminal, definitely.

Let’s get started with the basics.

Running your own meetup

Nobody owns a city and there are no invitation-only “official” events. Start one, add it to the global calendar, and help make computers fun again.

About OmarchyLinux, open source, programming, customization, or adjacent hacker culture
Open to everyoneNo invitation-only events. Capacity limits are obviously fine
Community-runOrganizers speak for themselves, not for Omarchy or the Foundation
No territoryNobody owns a city. Anyone may organize anywhere
No profiteeringFree is preferred. Cover real costs, don’t build an events business
Sponsors are fineSpace, pizza and drinks are welcome — disclosed, and never a sales pitch

Sponsorships

More money in, more money out. The Omacom Foundation puts its funding straight back into the software Omarchy is built on.

Hyprland Exclusive

The tiling Wayland compositor at the heart of Omarchy since day one. The sponsorship lets Vaxry work on it without thinking about commercial development or fundraising, and freed the Hyprperks program to be released for everyone, for free. Three years, with an option for another two.

Quickshell Premier

The desktop construction kit the Omarchy shell is built on: one long-running process drawing the bar, the menu, the notifications, the OSDs and the lock screen. It shipped in Quattro, and over a thousand plugins followed in the first week. By outfoxxed.

mise Premier

The tool that manages language runtimes and ships every coding agent in Omarchy. Years of work by jdx that quietly makes managing versions of Ruby, Node and Go a joy.

The Foundation

The Omacom Foundation launched with $8 million and reached $10 million within days. Elite capital, public code — the money exists to keep the core technologies free and independently maintained.

Backing

Incubated at 37signals, makers of Basecamp and HEY. Sponsored hosting by Cloudflare.

Security
